The High Potential and Gifted Education Policy applies to all NSW public schools, teachers, and students.

The policy will be operating in all public schools in NSW from the 27 January 2021, aligning with the new four-year school planning cycle.

Schools do not need to create their own school 'policy' for high potential and gifted students.

The 'Revisiting Gifted Education' literature review (produced by CESE) provides a synthesis of the evidence base that supported the development and supports the implementation of the policy. There are numerous ways schools can engage with this review:

Professional learning is available to support leaders and teachers to effectively implement the High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy towards excelling.

Tier 1 professional learning assists school leaders and teachers with policy familiarisation and planning . There are a range of differentiated and flexible options.

The High Potential and Gifted Education Policy Evaluation and Planning Tool supports school leaders to evaluate and plan for the integration of the HPGE Policy into Strategic Improvement Plans through alignment with the School Excellence Framework.

This interactive tool provides a framework for school leaders to gather evidence and evaluate their current procedures, programs and practices. The tool incorporates research and provides an avenue for school leaders to attach file evidence and review their progress over time.
